March 7, 2014 Friday Parent Letter
March 7, 2014
Happy Friday! We have had two phenomenal weeks! Last week our authentic Black History Variety Show program was a great success. The students did a spectacular job showcasing their talents and knowledge! The “Taste of Soul Food” prepared by Helen Catering Delights had everyone licking their fingers with pleasure. Our grade level commercials from Preschool through 5th grade will always be a memorable experience! We had a special guest, Mr. Smith with Comcast who came to offer a fantastic opportunity to parents for internet. The cost is only $10.00. If you are interested and would like more information contact our office. Thank you to all the parents, family, and community who came to support our children! If you are interested in capturing the memories, an order form for the commercials is enclosed.
This week we launched our Reading Month activities. Everyone can join the fun as we celebrate reading. Encourage your child to read every day for at least thirty minutes and record their reading time. Listening to a story on tape or from a loved one also counts towards their reading time. Dr. Seuss will be visiting Genesee STEM Academy on Friday, March 14th!
We will have our midyear MAP (Measure Academic Progress) assessment March 18th – 28th. As we work collaboratively to improve student academic performance this assessment is one tool we use to measure their growth in reading and math. Please, make sure your child is present, on time, and rested for the assessment period. Attendance is always essential for student success. Thank you in advance for your support. Data results will be shared at our Parent/ Teacher Conferences.
Parent /Teacher Conferences are quickly approaching; March 25th, 27th, and 28th. Please, complete the conference request form enclosed and return Monday, March 10th. This is a very important conference to discuss your child’s progress and goals for next year. Please, make arrangements to attend.
Our Targeted Title One After -School program will launch Monday, March 10th. Please, read the enclosed papers for details.
Volunteers are needed for our “School Closet!” We have a tremendous amount of clothing to sort and organize for all ages from youth – adult. Your assistance will be greatly appreciated, come and help!
We are now enrolling for next year 2014/15. If you haven’t reserved your child’s placement for next year, please give us a call or return the Letter of Intent. Help us spread the word we are enrolling Preschool through 6th grade.
