February 25, 2015 Wednesday Parent Letter

February 25, 2015

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Happy Wednesday!   Burrrr… is the word for the past few weeks!  Mother Nature has caused us to change our plans.   Our Black History program will be featured in May when we celebrate diversity.  Kindergarten Round Up will occur later in March, stay tuned for the date.  Our “Winter Brain Break” for students is still on track for Thursday, February 26-27.  Staff has professional development on Thursday, February 26th

We realize with the winter season colds and viruses become a challenge for our students.  As we work together to try and keep everyone healthy and avoid spreading germs, please remember to keep your child home if they are running a fever and/or vomiting.  Please, call the school whenever your child is going to be absent, with the reason for their absence.  Great attendance is a key ingredient for our children’s educational growth.  We are concerned about some of our students having excessive absence and/or late attendance.  Students who are picked up early continually are losing out on instructional time.  We appreciate you working with us to make sure your child is here on time and completes the full day 8:15am-3:30pm.  Thank you in advance for your support!

Saturday, March 14, 2015 from 11:00am-2:00pm is our STEM Enrollment Fair!   We have an afternoon designed to engage the old and young with experiments, refreshments, prizes, and tours. Please, share the information and invite others to come and see why they should enroll at Genesee STEM Academy.  Next year we will add 7th grade as we continue to build our K-12th grade program.  Looking forward to seeing everyone at our STEM Enrollment Fair!

It’s time to get ready for our Annual King and Princess Dance!  Mark your calendars for Thursday, March 19, 2015.  It will be an elegant evening of fun for our young ladies and their special King.  Tickets are only $5.00 person and will go on sale Monday, March 2, 2015.  Space is limited so you will want to purchase your tickets right away.   More information to follow in March, if you have any questions please give us a call.

Tyrell Bartee, 5th grade 1st Place Spelling Bee champion is going to compete in the Genesee Intermediate School District Spelling Bee on Thursday, February 26th.   Larry McElroy who won is as a 3rd grade alternate for the county spelling bee.  We are wishing them the best!! We are very proud of their accomplishments!  Go Tyrell!  Go Larry!
