August 21, 2015 Friday Parent Letter

August 21, 2015

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Happy Friday!  We have successfully completed our first week of school!  Students are actively engaged in numerous activities to learn classroom and school rules, routines, and procedures.  They are participating in community building activities as they work collaboratively to solve problems and learn about each other to have strong positive relationships.  Ask your child about some of the exciting learning adventures they have experienced this week!

Our mission is to keep everyone safe.  Please, help us with arrival and dismissal.  When you arrive at GSTEMA use the parking lot in the rear of our building, avoid stopping at the curb side, which interrupts the safe flow of traffic.

School starts at 8:00am with our community meeting.  Students are dismissed to class at approximately 8:15am.  Students arriving before 8:15 should use the back gym door.  Students arriving after 8:15 should be brought to the office and signed-in by the parent/guardian.  Students arriving after 8:15am are considered tardy.

Dismissal time is a very busy time of day.  Students are dismissed at 3:30pm.  Parents can pick their student(s) up from room 15; use the back rear door for entrance.  Use the parking lot for pick up and exit out the rear gate.  Children can only be picked up by persons identified on their emergency form and must be 18 years of age.  If you need to request a transportation change it must be submitted in writing.  For safety reasons we can no longer accept phone calls to make changes for transportation.  We have no way to verify who is making the call. If you have any questions, please give us a call.

We encourage and love parents’ participation with every aspect of their child’s educational journey.  Communication is an important part of our School/Home Compact.  If you would like to speak with your child’s teacher please feel free to call the school.  Phone calls will be returned during their planning time or after school.  You can also send your child’s teacher an email.

Next week students will begin their STEM elective schedules with Science/Engineering, Technology, and Physical Education.  Broadcasting and our 8 week Fine Arts program by Elevate will be starting soon!   Mark your calendars for Wednesday, September 9th at 8:30-9:30am Continental Breakfast with the Principal and Tuesday, September 15 at 6pm-7pm for our Curriculum Night.
