October 2, 2014 Friday Parent Letter
October 2, 2014
Happy Thursday! I’m proud to announce we had a successful Count Day! Thank you for your support in making sure your child was in attendance. We achieved our enrollment goal of 240 students. We currently have 244 students enrolled at GSTEMA! We sincerely applaud the efforts of our marketing team, parents, staff, and community efforts to reach our goal; “Teamwork Makes a Dream Work!”
Based on our enrollment, class sizes, and financial responsibility we will be restructuring our classes to meet the needs of our students. Starting Monday some students’ classes will change. The 2nd and 3rd grade classes significantly exceed our class size limit of 25 students. We will be adding a 2nd/3rd grade class taught by Mrs. Woolf to meet the needs of our students. Our Junior 1st class is significantly below our class size and therefore will be dissolved. Students will join either the 1st or Kindergarten classes depending on their academic performance. We will continue to challenge our Junior 1st students with a curriculum to meet their academic learning plans. The 1st/2nd grade split will return to two first grade classes. Parents of children who are affected by the change will receive separate notification. Our mission at Genesee STEM Academy is to provide a safe, nurturing learning environment for all children. If you have any questions regarding this restructuring please don’t hesitate to give me a call.
Picture day was a huge success! The children looked adorable in their uniforms and bright smiles. We sincerely appreciate Mr. Meredith for being our school photographer allowing us to offer affordable prices. All children were required to wear their school uniforms and take their picture. If your child wasn’t dressed appropriately we supplied them with a polo shirt for their picture. We will have class composites for our potential yearbook. If you would not like to have your child’s picture part of the class composite please contact the office.
MTA has done some restructuring of bus stops. The bus changes are included with this letter. Please, call if you have any questions. We are still working with MTA for a reduction in size of our Orange bus. Stay tuned for more information, please, reinforce safety and respect rules for your child. Students who fail to follow bus procedures will be suspended from riding the bus.
Our MAP testing began today and will continue over the next couple of weeks. Results will be shared with students and parents. Conferences begin next week please make sure you attend. Friday, October 3rd is Records day, No School for students.
Have a great weekend!
Mrs. H. Rita Cheek
