October 17, 2014 Friday Parent Letter
October 17, 2014
Happy Friday! We have had a very busy week. The students finished their MAP testing, students visited the Dentist R Us bus and took advantage of their program, and we have been actively preparing for our After School Programs and field trip. In addition, we had a staff change which will affect all of our students. Mr. Burris our Science/Engineering teacher has left our staff due to personal reasons. We are blessed to have Miss Smith who is knowledgeable and passionate about science/engineering to take his place. Therefore, we will be having Ms. Hudson join our GSTEMA family teaching Miss Smith’s 2nd grade. She is a highly qualified and certified teacher who resides in Flint. We are excited to have her join the team.
After School programs begin Monday, October 20th. The classes meet on different days, we have sent home a letter indicating which class, days, expectations, and permission slip for parents to read, sign, and return. Permission slip MUST BE RETURNED BEFORE student can start class. We are fortunate to offer snacks and supper Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday with our After School Program courtesy of Genesee County Card Resource Department! If you would like to volunteer to help with our After School Program please contact the office, we appreciate your support.
Our school-wide field trip to Montrose Apple Orchard is Wednesday, October 22nd. We will be departing from school at 11am and returning at approximately 3pm. Students should dress warmly for the outdoor event. Students can wear their polo shirt with blue jeans for this learning experience. Students who are experiencing difficulty following school rules and procedures might be excused from attending the trip. We must have their permission slip for students to attend; the cost is $5.00. If you have any questions concerning the trip please give us a call immediately.
Genesee STEM Academy Spirit Wear is now available to order at great prices! Please consider ordering your family GSTEMA attire and showcase our school around Michigan. We have something for the entire family to wear. We will place orders every two weeks or as demand requires.
School pictures should be ready by Friday, October 31st. Friday, October 31st is our Fall Festival; remember students can dress up in career attire only. We are celebrating careers not Halloween. If you would like to come and share your career with students, please contact their teacher or the office.
We need your support with student behavior on the bus. We still are having problems with students not being safe; out of their seats, bullying other students, using inappropriate language, and throwing items. These behaviors are unacceptable and can lead to suspension from the bus permanently. Please, discuss bus expectations with your student. We want everyone safe.
Student must wear uniforms. We explained at the time of enrollment our students are expected to wear uniforms. Please, adhere to our policy, thank you for your support.
Sincerely, Congratulations Citizenship and Attendance Star Achievers!
Mrs. H. Rita Cheek
