Ms. Gilley’s Class
Welcome to Ms. Gilley’s classroom page!
Today we will work on a Black History Month display for our hallway. You will be working in groups to research a famous person and write a short (half page) informational essay about their contribution. Each group will write about a different person. We will write the names of the people on the whiteboard as they are chosen. Do not begin working until you have cleared your subject with Mrs. Smith or Mrs. Gilley. You must use the links below for your research. We will print your writing and a photograph, attach it to construction paper and create a display between our doors. We will begin by completing a writing about Rosa Parks as a whole group.
We will spend the remainder of January and February exploring the Civil Rights Movement. We will begin by reading about Martin Luther King, Jr. and then create a timeline of events and people that came before and after. We will be focused on the impacts and contributions of African Americans to our United States history.

I recently returned to the Flint area from Macomb, Illinois. I grew up in the Kearsley area. I married into the Navy and spent much of my adult life moving around the country and the world. I have three children. My oldest son, Sheldon, works as a physicist in the D.C. area. My daughter, Cienna, is in her final year at North Central College outside Chicago and my youngest, Davin, joined the Army in June and is currently in school to work on Black Hawk helicopters. I enjoy crafting, reading, spending time with my family and my dog, Kaiser, and going to the beach. I look forward to working with you and your family!
